Overview

How Google Ads works for plumbers

Plumbing searches are urgent more often than not. A burst pipe, a backed-up drain or a dead water heater turns into a phone call within minutes, to a plumber who shows up on the page and answers. Google Ads for plumbers works when it is built for that moment: ads that show when someone needs a plumber now, a number that gets answered, and tracking that counts the calls. It fails when the budget pays for people who want to fix the toilet themselves, buy parts or find a plumbing apprenticeship.

Plumbing qualifies for Local Services Ads, so the account rests on three campaign types: Local Services Ads at the very top, Search for the specific jobs you want, such as drain cleaning, water heaters, repiping and sewer lines, and Performance Max across Google's other placements. We do not have a plumbing case study to publish yet, so we will not pretend to. The closest real account is a concrete contractor in Palm Springs run on the same lead-driven setup: 48+ estimate requests at an 11.40% conversion rate, with the report on the Belcrete case study. Greenflow is a current Google Partner. To see what the setup would look like for your plumbing company, book a free strategy call.

How we run it

What changes for plumbers

  • Brand and non-brand kept apart

Once people search for your company by name, those searches get their own small campaign. Brand clicks are cheap and convert easily; mixed into the main campaign they flatter its numbers and hide what a new customer really costs. A brand campaign keeps the main one honest and keeps competitors off your name.

  • Service lines, by budget

Drain cleaning, water heaters and repiping are different jobs with different values. When the budget supports it, each gets its own campaign, budget and ads. When it does not, they share one campaign with an ad group each, so the message stays specific and Google's bidding still gets enough conversions to learn from.

  • Negatives for DIY, parts and jobs

Searches like how to unclog a drain, plumbing parts, PVC fittings, plumber salary and plumbing apprenticeship all match plumbing keywords, and none of them books a service call. We block them before launch and read the search terms report every week for the new variations.

  • Calls are the conversion

Most plumbing leads phone. A call counts as a lead only when it lasts long enough to be a real conversation, and booking forms are tracked the same way. Taps on a call button and direction requests are not leads, so they never steer the budget.

What we are seeing in Google Ads this month

Updated

  • Google changes how and when Local Services Ads charge for call leads on October 1, 2026. If you run LSAs, review your lead disputes before the switch.
  • Mr. Birria's Google Ads have brought 10,800+ store visits and 1,500+ phone leads. Local campaigns and catering lead forms do most of the work.
  • Belcrete's contractor campaign turned 11.40% of clicks into estimate requests, on job-value keywords with a tight negative list. Fewer clicks, better jobs.

FAQ

Google Ads for plumbers: questions we get

How much does Google Ads cost for a plumber?

Our Google Ads management starts at $750 a month, month to month, with no setup fees. Ad spend is separate and paid to Google from your own billing; we size it to your area, your crew and your click costs on the free strategy call. Every plan is on the pricing page.

Should plumbers run Local Services Ads or Google Search ads?

Both. Plumbing qualifies for Local Services Ads, which sit at the very top of the page, charge per lead and carry the Google Guaranteed badge. Search ads let you choose the exact jobs and keywords you pay for, like water heater replacement or sewer line repair, and the page each click lands on. Local Services Ads management is included in our Google Ads Growth plan, $1,200 a month, alongside Search and Performance Max, so there is no separate LSA fee. See Local Services Ads.

Should my plumbing ads run 24 hours a day?

Google Ads lets you set an ad schedule, so ads can run all night or only during set hours. The question to answer first is whether your phone is answered at night: an ad that rings an unanswered line pays for a call that goes to the next plumber. If you do offer round-the-clock emergency service, it is worth saying so in the ad.

How fast will plumbing ads bring in calls?

Search ads start showing the day they go live. The first month is about data: which services get searched, which keywords produce calls, and which search terms need to be blocked. Google's bidding also needs conversions to learn from, roughly 30 a month for a campaign, so results build as the data does. Anyone promising a full schedule in week one is guessing.

Do you have results from a plumbing client?

Not yet, and we will not invent them. The closest real account we can show is Belcrete Concrete, a contractor on the same lead-driven setup: 48+ estimate requests at an 11.40% conversion rate, from a real screenshot of the client's Google Ads account with only the cost figures covered. When we have a plumbing account we can publish, the report will go here.
